Films

Fil-festival se jintwerew tliet films b’direzzjoni ta’ Roxana Vilk li se jintroduċihom Caldon Mercieca (https://vimeo.com/album/2449178):
A Palestinian Poet in Beirut
The Confession
Road to Damascus

L-ewwel wieħed, A Palestinian Poet in Beirut, huwa vjaġġ fil-memorja tal-poeta Palestinjan imwieled u mrobbi l-Libanu Mazen Maarouf, li se jaqra l-Ġimgħa. Fih narrattiva ċara li tista’ tiftiehem tajjeb ħafna minn udjenza żagħżugħa li għadha ma tbegħditx wisq mit-tfulija. Juri ambjent urban qawwi fih, inklużi spazji intimi u l-fdalijiet abbandunati ta’ dawn l-istess spazji. Però jasal ukoll biex jiftaħ il-perspettiva lejn pajsaġġ iktar miftuħ, inqas ingumbrat bit-toqol tal-memorji, b’mod partikolari fil-ftuħ lejn il-baħar minn xifer l-irdum. Il-poeżija tasal biex tiftaħ kemm il-bibien ġewwinija kif ukoll dawk li jagħtu għall-beraħ, mingħajr ma taħrab mill-perikli li hemm fit-tnejn.

It-tieni wieħed, The Confession, huwa wkoll vjaġġ fil-memorja, iktar kontemplattiv minn ta’ qablu. Fih il-poeta jipprova jiffaċċja l-kwistjonijiet il-kbar tal-ħajja (il-gwerra, il-mewt, il-ġustizzja) billi jikteb dwar l-azzjonijiet kwotidjani u komuni. Fih riflessjonijiet minn min għex ħajja twila (itwal minn dik tal-poeta fl-ewwel film) u b’dan il-mod joħloq bilanċ u kontrapiż poetiku bejn dak muri fl-ewwel film u dak ippreżentat fit-tieni wieħed. Kemm fil-bidu kif ukoll lejn It-tmiem tat-tieni film hemm referenza filmika għall-baħar u referenza poetika għall-ilma, ix-xita, il-mewġ, u dan huwa punt komuni bejn iż-żewġ films.

It-tielet film, Road to Damascus, li se jintwera s-Sibt, qiegħed ‘il barra mid-dinamika lineari jew ċiklika tal-ħajja (tfulija, maturità, mewt), u jidħol fil-pajsaġġ subkonxju tal-ħolm filwaqt li viżwalment idur madwar il-kunċett tal-vjaġġ sotterranju lejn destinazzjoni li ma tidher qatt u li ma tagħti ebda ħjiel jekk hux qed toqrob jew titbiegħed. Huwa l-iktar film impenjattiv, kemm fil-kunċett ippreżentat, kemm fir-rabta tiegħu mar-realtà politika u soċjali (b’poeta Sirjan li jitkellem dwar il-ħolm tiegħu u juri l-klawstrofobija tal-ħolma kerha li wieħed ma jistax jaħrab minnha u li tieħu post ir-realtà, anki jekk jagħraf li r-realtà tista’ tkun kiefra iktar mill-eqqel ħolma), kif ukoll fil-ħoss, il-vuċi li tintuża (pajsaġġ mużikali elettroniku irqiq li fuqu jinstema’ leħen li forsi qed ikellem lil xi ħadd, imma forsi huma biss il-ħsibijiet ta’ xi ħadd li minħabba l-fekwenza għolja u msoffija minn interferenzi esterni li jilħaq il-film, isiru jinstemgħu).
